At Beverly we are keenly aware that nutrition is power. Yes, we all know that no one gets anywhere in bodybuilding or athletics without correct and hard disciplined training. While this is undeniably fact, if you want to reach YOUR pinnacle of success in bodybuilding either in terms of size, or size and definition, then precise nutrition becomes just as important as training, if not even more so.

Changes in nutrition can take individuals at a standstill and change their lives, whether it is in saving one’s health, saving a relationship or winning a bodybuilding event.

However, despite 1000’s of articles in the various magazines and the emergence of innumerable bodybuilding ‘gurus’, nutrition is still a vastly underestimated element in the bodybuilding equation with an enormous amount of misinformation and downright lies.

Protein is by far, the most important food/supplement for a bodybuilder! Protein is JOB 1 at Beverly

Which Protein Is Right For You!

When it comes to precise nutrition, your goals and lifestyle must be considered. Is it really possible for you to eat every 2-3 hours? Are you able to afford the kinds and amounts of foods required by a particular nutritional plan?

Caveat: Protein is by far, the most important food/supplement for a bodybuilder!

While consistency and self discipline in diet and training ultimately leads you to success in bodybuilding, it all would matter naught if it were not for quality protein. Thus, this is JOB 1 at Beverly!

But – it is lack of consistency coupled with a lack of protein nutritional knowledge as it applies to bodybuilding that contributes to the fact that 70% of new gym members quit after only six weeks. Ugh—what an awful statistic! Lack of immediate results causes many to quickly lose interest and quit. Many aspiring (read frustrated) bodybuilders who have trained for years without good results come to Beverly for help after they finally realize something is wrong.

My first response is always, “let’s look at your proteins and diet”. I explain the need for proper bodybuilding nutrition and supplements and it NEVER EVER fails, following our advice for 4-6 weeks the results COME! We usually give the same simple advice on the power of nutrition by using the BASIC THREE” --- Protein, Liver and a Vitamin-Mineral Pack.

THE BASIC THREE

1: PROTEIN!

Again – the most important food element and most important supplement for a bodybuilder is protein. Bodybuilders need to ingest quality protein at regular intervals through each day.

Backing every aspect of science, not lies and misinformation -- we recommend the use of a multi-blend protein powder that has a high percentage of “milk protein isolates” combined with supportive amounts of egg, beef peptides and quality whey. This is the protein substrate most effective to enhance muscle gain and fat loss. And—if you look at what we engineer into the industry’s 2 strongest proteins (by consensus now, by just about everybody—finally) Muscle Provider and Ultra Size, you’ll see that even in the predominant anabolic whey (Provider) we add albumin and casein (in the newer Chocolate version).

--- (Just wait until you see Ultra Size Plus and Muscle Provider–Prime in 2003! The mistake most bodybuilders make in regard to protein supplements is that they do not use enough. Smart bodybuilders use up to two cups (8 oz.) per day for the best gains in muscle mass and density.
We are adamant that (with or without steroid use) trainees use protein a minimum of 3 times daily: 1st thing in the morning (or mid morning), late afternoon (preferably after training), and about one hour before bedtime.

One should ingest at least 2 scoops (2 scoops = ½ cup) of the powder at each of these servings. Beverly’s Ultra Size is great for increased mass and density at breakfast and night and for maximum muscle density after training or mid-day, Muscle Provider is our preference. Depending on your goals and individual metabolism your drinks may be mixed with non-caloric beverages such as water or Crystal Light, low fat milk, apple juice, and even half and half or whipping cream.

A favorite of former Mr. Olympia, Frank Zane was 3-oz. protein, 2 oz. whipping cream, 1 whole egg, and 12-oz. ice water. The first Mr. Olympia, Larry Scott, mixed 2-oz. protein in 8-oz heavy cream and ate it as a pudding – up to 4 times daily. Bodybuilder-writer, Jeff Everson, told us, he always primed his ex-wife Cory with Beverly protein, starting the six times Ms. Olympia on in it in 1982 and up through 1990. He also used Beverly in exclusion for the University of Wisconsin football team from 1976-1983. And as we speak, he is using Muscle Provider, Mass Aminos, Muscle Synergy (16 per day) and Ultra Size training for the NPC Masters (over 50) Nationals.

Paulette Bolen illustrates the value of precise nutrition in building a precision body. Unlike many before and after photos you'll see in spurious ads, Paulette had a professional photographer take her before photo actually before she began her diet. The after photo is a snapshot eleven weeks later.
Paulette Before
Paulette's supplement program centered around the big 3 - Beverly Proteins -Ultra Size and Muscle Provider, Ultra 40 Liver tablets (3 per meal) and 1 Beverly Ms Power Pak daily throughout the entire 11 weeks.

If ingesting 3 protein drinks daily does not fit with your lifestyle the use of an amino acid product is an alternative. You should take 3 – 6 with each of four to six meals daily at a minimum. We recommend Beverly Mass. It is the premiere peptide bond amino on the market with a 49.6% nitrogen yield, more than four times the industry’s average.

If you are having trouble gaining weight and do not want to utilize fats in your diet mix Beverly’s Mass Maker (5 different protein species combined with a low glycemic carbohydrate matrix) and nonfat or 1% milk. Use 3 Mass Maker and 12-oz. Skim or low fat milk milk, three times daily.

2: LIVER THE FORGOTTEN MIRACLE!

Liver has always been the panacea for non-steroid bodybuilders. It has proved invaluable in breaking strength sticking points, as well as contributing greatly to energy flow. Quality de-fatted liver produces results because it is a storehouse of natural B-complex vitamins, minerals, an excellent source of protein and ancillary building and endurance elements.

Now there are some that run down liver. But, take a closer look. To these people liver is not glamorous. It’s close up butt shots and big fake breasts that sell magazines, liver doesn’t.

Meanwhile, at Beverly we just concentrate on good proteins and products that work. Fittingly, we suggest Ultra 40 because it is Argentine liver of the highest grade and we recommend 3 – 6 tablets with each of 4 – 6 meals.

3: VITAMIN-MINERAL PACK

The third component of the Basic Three is a high quality vitamin-mineral pack. Lately there seems to be a reduced emphasis on the value of these elements. You should know, however, that they are important for better energy, better digestion, proper nerve and hormonal function, the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and protein, the health of the skin, hair, eyes, and liver, and many other processes. In fact, without these micronutrients, bodybuilding gains would not be possible. The simple solution? Take one Super Pak daily with a meal or protein mix.

Super Pak

Mark Ritter knows that if you eat like an average person, you'll look like an average person. In street clothes Mark looks like your average college student. But give him a protein shake, a smile and put him in an Island Paradise and you'll see what consistent, good nutrition can do.
Protein Shake Posing in Hawaii

Although this is a very basic and somewhat old-fashioned supplement program, it will work with just about any diet that you elect to follow. It is also economical in that the protein powder and liver are cheaper per gram of protein provided than the usual food sources of chicken and turkey breasts. Remember, if you eat like an average person – you will look like one. Incorporate the power of nutrition and bodybuilding success will be yours!
