In the fall of 1999, I learned that there was a Natural bodybuilding contest promoted here in Oklahoma. Finally there was an outlet for my bodybuilding aspirations. I made up my mind to compete in the 2000 contest. I had no idea how to prepare. Then, on the Internet, I found the Beverly International website, www.bodybuildingworld.com.

Denton Rimer, the newest “Drug Free” Pro in the nation
A miracle to the rescue my friends! Literally, a miracle it was too. Beverly had a veritable catalog of real life in-the-trench-inspiring success stories. I immediately sent away for their Ultra 40 Liver and Mass Aminos as this seemed to be a common thread throughout everyone’s contest success. I followed the advice on posing, tanning, and what to do the contest week. The contest went very well, I won the Novice Lightweight, and was named Overall Novice Champion. Incredible! Throughout the entire process I only contacted Beverly to order supplements, because everything else was on their website.
The following year I trained very hard all year in anticipation of the Open class competition ahead. My diet started in January. I developed my own diet this time and within six weeks realized it wasn’t working. I again visited the Beverly website. This time instead of merely copying one of the diets on the website I completed a client profile and e-mailed it to Beverly.
I discovered that many bodybuilders were taking a mixture of 3 powerful proteins, Muscle Provider, 100% Egg and Ultra Size, with cream with fantastic results. I had made the mistake of mixing a whey protein concentrate with cream and all it was doing was making me fatter. This is when I found out that all protein is not created equal.

The next day, I received via e-mail my diet and supplement schedule for the next seven weeks. My protein was increased, and starchy carbohydrates were decreased, except for the "Carb Meal" on Monday and Thursday. (See my diet at 10 weeks out for my exact food and supplement plan.) The initial Beverly diet was supposed to last four weeks, but it worked so well, I stayed on it another three. The Beverly program worked better than anything I have ever used. And that is the truth.
At three weeks out Beverly devised a new plan for the final push to competition. The diet and supplement schedules were comprehensive and precise. I used only Beverly supplements (except Diet Fuel) during this entire 10-week period. I didn't want any uncontrolled variables screwing up the process. Beverly even included what to do the last week and day of the show. I was ecstatic!
In just 3 short weeks I saw my body literally transform. The day of the contest saw 132 competitors from seven states entered. After prejudging, I knew I had a shot. As we all entered the stage that evening, the emcee announced there was a tie and the evening show would be judged to break the tie. Now, I knew I’d have to nail my posing routine. I executed my evening routine just as I had practiced.
That evening I won the Men's Open Lightweight, and later came back to win the Overall. Yes, I was now the newest NGA Pro in the nation. It was a dream come true. In fact, I'm still on cloud nine!
But – by far the biggest story for me was that also this year, my wife decided she would enter the contest as well. Leslie has a Bachelor's degree in Dietetics and she was a little apprehensive of the arduous Beverly plan. Leslie continued on her own diet at first. But seeing my progress in just 10 days of following the Beverly program Leslie decided to go on the program as well.
We formulated a diet and supplement schedule for her using mine as a basis, lowering the amounts in consideration of her lighter bodyweight. Leslie got into the best shape of her life. She looked incredible, and won second place in the Women's Open Lightweight class in her first contest. It was an incredible day all around.

My wife Leslie got into the best shape of her life. Her coursework en route to a Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics did not include Bodybuilding 101. Luckily – Beverly’s diet and supplement program were there to help her prepare for her 1st contest. |
Training for this competition together was a terrific experience. Leslie and I did everything together every step of the way – diet, supplements, cardio and training. You don’t see many husband and wife bodybuilders, so to me it's unique.
Looking at the enclosed training schedule you'll notice we trained on strange days compared to most people (Wed. through Sun.), that's because we both work at full-time jobs, and attend graduate classes until 10:00 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. Yes, this was quite a busy semester!
